Psalm 35:13 — “I humbled my soul with fasting.”
Fasting is the great leveler. Every hunger pain whispers the truth: we are not self-made; we are God-dependent.
Humility is not weakness; it is choosing to see ourselves accurately in light of who God is. The world tells us to push harder, prove more, and stay in control. But fasting invites a different rhythm. It slows us down. It says, You don’t have to hold everything together. You’re not the source - He is.
When you fast, you give up more than food. It really is the act of letting go of control. You lay down the illusion of self-sufficiency and the pride that quietly says, I can do this on my own.
Fasting humbles the soul because it confronts our need for comfort, our craving for praise, and our desire to feel capable. Yet in that surrender, something powerful happens - God draws near.
God leans in toward humility. He loves it! Scripture says He resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. And grace isn’t just kindness; it’s Heaven’s help rushing in where you’ve finally made space for it.
Sometimes we mistake humility for insecurity. But humility isn’t thinking less of yourself. It’s thinking of yourself less. It’s turning the spotlight away from you and back onto Him. It’s recognising that every good thing - every gift, every breath, every open door - comes from His hand.
In the coming days we will begin to pray some bold prayers. True boldness is born in humility, not ego. When we bow low, we gain access to God's authority. Those who are humble are keen to partner with God and what He is doing.
Over these days of fasting, let weakness become your worship. Let dependence become your strength.
PRAY BOLD:
“I humble myself before You. Strip away pride, self-reliance, and control. Teach me to live dependent on Your grace in every part of my life. Where I feel weak, meet me with Your strength. Let humility be my quiet confidence."
EQUIPPERS EVERYWHERE:
Today we are praying for Philippines!
(As part of this fast, we’re lifting up our Equippers family and churches around the world. Each day, take a few moments to pray for the country we list and our church/es there - praying for the pastors and people, and believing for God’s presence, power, and provision to move in that nation.)
