Matthew 26:41 - “The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Fasting is a spiritual confrontation. Have you experience that yet?
It exposes the internal war between flesh and spirit and invites divine order back into our lives. The flesh loves control, comfort, and convenience - but fasting dethrones the flesh so the Spirit can lead again.
“He must increase, I must decrease.” - John 3:30
Every day your desires, preferences and opinions want to increase. But we must decrease for Him to increase in our lives.
Every time you say “no” to an item of food you really want and say “no” to your appetite, you’re saying “yes” to authority - Christ’s authority in you.
What a great reminder on Day 2 of this fast!
Fleshly patterns can look like overindulgence, worry, self-reliance, or even busyness. These habits numb our sensitivity to God’s voice. Fasting doesn’t just silence the noise of these things, it re-tunes the frequency.
When we fast, we are agreeing with God’s desire to make us whole. When the body hungers, the spirit listens. When you feel weak, grace grows strong. As you break physical habits, spiritual fortitude is formed.
Fasting re-orders our internal hierarchy:
Spirit → leads
Soul → follows
Body → serves
That is the order God created! And right now, our body needs a reminder that it is not the boss. As we fast, the spirit takes the driver’s seat again, and the flesh learns submission.
This is the week to expose the patterns that have been ruling too long. Let the fast reveal them - not to shame you, but to free you. Don’t focus on what you lose, but focus on what there is to gain.
PRAY BOLD:
“Where my flesh has been leading, let Your Spirit take charge. Break every dependency, distraction, and desire that dulls my hunger for You. Teach me to walk by the Spirit, led by conviction - not comfort.”
EQUIPPERS EVERYWHERE:
Today we are praying for Prague, Czech. We're planting a new church in the most atheist city of Europe - believing for a fresh move of God. May God raise a new community of believers that would be passionate about His Kingdom. Pray for Milan and Petra as they moved there that God would be with them and every step.
(As part of this fast, we’re lifting up our Equippers family and churches around the world. Each day, take a few moments to pray for the country we list and our church/es there - praying for the pastors and people, and believing for God’s presence, power, and provision to move in that nation.)
