Jeremiah 29:7
“Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”
Week One of The Fast centred on God working in you, Week Two on God working through you, and Week Three is about God working beyond you. This is where personal revival turns into Kingdom movement.
When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He didn’t end with “Give us this day our daily bread.” He led them to pray, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” That’s the kind of bold prayer that changes nations.
This week, we turn our gaze outward. We pray for the streets we walk, the people we love, and the world that desperately needs the hope of Jesus.
When God sent Israel into exile in Babylon, He didn’t tell them to isolate or withdraw. He told them to invest. “Seek the peace and prosperity of the city.”
The Hebrew word used here for peace is ‘shalom’. It means far more than the absence of conflict. It means “wholeness, flourishing, harmony, and divine order restored”.
God was saying, “Don’t just survive Babylon - bless it.”
Pray for its economy, its families, its streets, its rulers. Build houses. Plant gardens. Start families. Live in such a way that the city you’re in becomes better because you’re there.
That’s the kind of bold intercession we’re called to. When you pray bold for your city, you’re declaring that the Kingdom of God has a place here.
Maybe your “city” is your workplace or your university campus. Maybe it’s your suburb or your local sports club. You have authority to pray and to bless.
What does it look like to seek the peace and prosperity of your city this week?
Cities are changed when God’s people pray with vision. Every revival in history began with believers who prayed bold, not just for personal breakthrough, but for societal transformation.
Where has God placed you “in exile” - in a place you didn’t choose, but He’s called you to bless? How can you practically seek the ‘shalom’ (wholeness, flourishing, harmony, and divine order restored) of your city this week?
PRAY BOLD
“Lord, open my eyes to see my city as You see it. Give me compassion where I’ve grown cold. I pray for the peace of my streets, my schools, my workplaces, and my community. Use me as a vessel of peace, healing, and hope in the place You’ve planted me. Position believers in places of impact. Let revival sweep through this city until every heart knows Your name.”
EQUIPPERS EVERYWHERE:
Today we are praying for the United States of America!
(As part of this fast, we’re lifting up our Equippers family and churches around the world. Each day, take a few moments to pray for the country we list and our church/es there - praying for the pastors and people, and believing for God’s presence, power, and provision to move in that nation.)
